The 420G and Mk10 – with only 50 on the UK roads to get 2 in one spot on foreign soil is extraordinary. Very sad- at launch, Motor magazine called the 420G "one of the best looking large cars in the world today"

XJ6 collection - Two are series 2 – clearly one started out in North America. Chances are one or two of them were built in Cape town in the 70's where Jaguar (Leyland) had a plant.

Just back from a great trip to South Africa and everything from weather to hospitality as I travelled around the Western Cape was fantastic. On the JLR front, Land Rover’s appear very popular, with many Discovery 3’s, Range Rover Sport and of course Defenders and older Series 11 in all sorts of condition! On the Jaguar front I saw a few XF’s and an XE, but for Jaguar enthusiasts who are not too squeamish, just outside Cape Town is the most incredible car museum I have ever been to, called the Wijnland Auto Museum. It boasts a collection of over 300 cars ranging from some literally dissolving into ferrous oxide, to well restored working ones.

While surprisingly Americana is the dominant theme, with numerous right hand drive Ford Galaxies and the like from the 60’s, there are a fair number of British Cars, including Jaguar and Daimler.

I counted the following;

XK120 fixed head coupe
MK 7
3 X MK1’s
Mk10
420G
2 x XJ6 Mk 2
XJ6 (USA federal spec)
2 x Daimler DS 420 hearse’s

That’s 12 cars, roughly 4% of the collection and if you are expecting concours, turn away now!
